This month which is so special to us, like last year, I again want to remind you of being safe during this season.

Staying healthy is about prevention. During this month we prepare for and celebrate Christmas, New Years, and early next month the Three Kings. It is such a joyful time for us to remember the good of the past year, Share in the love and joy of our families, and prepare for the next year.

That being said we need to avoid tragedy.

As we prepare our trees watch out for electrical accidents. Do not overload the electrical outlets. Keep the electrical wires out of reach of your children and pets. Place small tree ornaments out of the reach of small children. Make sure the tree is well hydrated so that it does not dry up to quickly and become flammable.

Keep plastic wrappers away from children to avoid suffocation injuries.

While cooking your holiday feast keep track of time to avoid burning your meal or starting a fire. Do not let the children play in the kitchen while things on the stove or in the oven.

Everybody is in a rush so be leery of other drivers. Do not drink and drive! Always wear you seatbelt. Always have the children in the appropriate child seats.

All of this sounds so simple and it is. Sad to say that in my years of seeing patients I have seen many tragedies because someone forgot these simple warnings.

My family and I wish you a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and Happy Three Kings Day. May you and yours be blessed with health, joy, and love?
